Hampton South athletes in action: College basketball

The following men's basketball players, all with Hampton South high school ties, have scheduled action this week:

Aaron Bacote, Old Dominion University
High school: Bethel High School
This week: Saturday, Feb. 16, versus College of William and Mary
About Bacote: Bacote is a 2012 graduate of Bethel High School. The Hampton native averaged 22 points per game to lead the Peninsula District in scoring and was named Peninsula District Player of the Year during his senior year for coach Craig Brehon. He is the son of Ted and Cathy Bacote.

Jashaun Dunn, Virginia Wesleyan College
High school: Bethel High School
This week: Saturday, Feb. 16, versus Lynchburg College
About Dunn: Dunn is a freshman basketball player for Virginia Wesleyan College. He is a 2012 graduate of Bethel High School in Hampton, where he was honorable mention All-Peninsula District as a senior. He scored 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds per game. The inter-divisional studies major is from Hampton and is the son of Jarrett Banks and Yulanda Dunn.

Joe Goodwin, Louisburg College

About Goodwin: Goodwin is a sophomore forward for Louisburg College. The Norfolk native is a 2009 graduate of Bethel High School in Hampton.

Paul Meredith, Christopher Newport University

About Meredith: Meredith is a 2008 graduate of Bethel High School, where he played basketball. As a senior (2007-08) Meredith averaged 10 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals per game while serving as team captain. He was named all-Peninsula third-team and garnered a spot in the Peninsula vs. South District all-star game. Born Jan. 16, 1990 the son of Paul and Christine Meredith, he is majoring in communications at Christopher Newport University. Meredith is from Hampton.

Jontel Evans, University of Virginia
Position: Guard
High school: Bethel High School
This week: Saturday, Feb. 16, at University of North Carolina
About Evans: Evans is a senior guard for University of Virginia. He is a 2009 graduate of Bethel High School in Hampton, where he lettered three times in basketball as a point guard for head coach Craig Brehon. The anthropology major from Hampton is the son of Walter and Trina Evans.
