Bethel grad Evans contributes to Virginia victory

Bethel High School graduate Jontel Evans contributed five points in the University of Virginia's 80-69 win over conference rival the University of Maryland on Feb. 10 at the Comcast Center in College Park, Md.

The University of Virginia senior guard also recorded five rebounds and eight assists for the Cavaliers, who improved to 17-6 on the season and 7-3 in the Athletic Coast Conference, the University of Virginia's website reported.

The University of Virginia's next game is noon Saturday, Feb. 16 on the road against the University of North Carolina.

Evans is a 2009 graduate of Bethel High School in Hampton, where he lettered three times in basketball as a point guard for head coach Craig Brehon. The anthropology major from Hampton is the son of Walter and Trina Evans.
