28 Hampton runners complete Polar Plunge 5K

A total of 28 Hampton athletes completed the Polar Plunge 5K on Saturday, Feb. 2 in Virginia Beach.

The runners from Hampton and their finishing times were Joel Bertrand, 26, 19:36; Emmie Schmitt, 17, 20:58; Brian Schmitt, 45, 21:35; Jens Knudsen, 30, 24:02; Travis Shannon, 32, 24:06; Kathleen Shannon, 25, 24:08; Jessie Taylor, 29, 24:45; Carmen Downs, 28, 27:53; Jennifer Crabtree, 40, 27:59; Brittany Beggs, 25, 29:06; Angela Taylor, 4, 30:31; Andrew Hinojosa, 22, 30:41; Jennifer Carpenter, 40, 31:07; Christa Carpenter, 39, 31:08; Brandon Williams, 27, 31:17; Haley Crabtree, 12, 31:24; Joshua Crabtree, 10, 31:25; Kristine Wright, 38, 34:12; Chris Kepics, 41, 37:09; Michelle Denise, 24, 39:30; Joy Golston, 35, 42:11; Christina Bell, 47, 44:37; Christina Cooper, 29, 45:20; Julia Edwards, 37, 45:22; Megan Canny, 20, 49:43; Susan Canny, 52, 49:44; Jason Gillette, 37, 50:20; and Kathleen Johnson, 35, 54:32.

Race organizers said 841 runners finished the 5K race, which began and ended at Eighth Street and the Boardwalk.

Billy Chorey, of Suffolk, was the men's overall winner with a finishing time of 16:21, while Emmie Schmitt, of Hampton, was the winner in the women's category with a time of 20:58.
