Hampton Convention, Visitor Bureau events, Jan. 11-13

The Hampton Convention and Visitor Bureau announced the following events schedule for Friday, Jan. 11 through Sunday, Jan. 13:

• On Friday, Jan. 11 the  33rd annual Virginia Duals Wrestling Tournament takes place. According to a release, "the team advancement concept started in Hampton with the Virginia Duals in 1981 and is now used by Virginia and many other states to determine the best high school team in the state. The National College Wrestling Coaches Association also recognized the value of the Team Advancement concept and now has the National Dual Team Championships to recognize the best college team in the nation."

• On Saturday, Jan. 12 at noon there will be a Snakes Alive event. According to a release, "you can learn many interesting facts about snakes and why they are to be welcomed, not feared. Learn which venomous as well as non-venomous snakes live at the park. You will have the opportunity to touch and look at several snakes up close."

• On Sunday, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m. there wil be a  Sunday Nature Hike. According to a release, "start out in the Nature Center to learn the history of Sandy Bottom Nature Park and look at our critters, then hike to our wildlife education area to learn an view our native non-releasable wildlife."

The Hampton Convention and Visitor Bureau is responsible for promoting tourism to Hampton and marketing and sales for the Hampton Roads Convention Center. Its staff consists of a sales team and media team. The executive director is Sallie Grant-DiVenuti.
